One of the most common questions we get: "What equipment do I need for your programs?"
Here's the honest answer: a pull-up bar and a heavy sandbag. That's it. Everything else is a luxury.
You don't need a fancy gym. You don't need expensive machines. Navy SEALs have been getting into the best shape of their lives with minimal equipment for decades. The training is the hard part — not the gear.
The Minimum Effective Setup
To run any SGPT program, all you truly need is:
- Pull-up bar — wall-mounted or doorframe
- Heavy sandbag — 50–100 lbs depending on your level
- Open space — a garage, backyard, or driveway works perfectly
With just these three things, you can complete 90% of our programming at full intensity.
The Ideal Home Gym Setup (If You Want to Go Further)
Check out this video of Coach Will's garage gym — the setup he uses for the 180 Day and 365 Day Training Systems:
Here's what's in the setup and why each piece matters:
- Bench / Pull-Up / Squat Rack — The backbone of strength training
- Olympic Barbell — For deadlifts, squats, and presses
- Bumper Plates — Drop-safe and versatile
- Kettlebells — Swings, carries, and conditioning work
- Dumbbells — Accessory work and unilateral training
- Concept 2 Rower — The gold standard for indoor cardio and endurance
- TRX Suspension Trainer — Bodyweight training anywhere
- Rucksack — Essential for ruck training
- BUD/S Fins (IST) — For swim training
- Aqua Sphere Mask — Open water and pool training
Now Get a Program to Match Your Setup
The gear is the easy part. The program is what gets you results. Here's where to start based on your level:
🔥 MiniFreak 30 Day Training Plan — Zero equipment needed. Perfect first step if you're just getting started.
🌱 SGPT Silver On-Ramp Program — Build your functional base with minimal gear before advancing.
💪 SGPT 365 Total Training System — A full year of operator-level programming. This is what Coach Will's garage gym was built for.
🏋️ Tier 1 Development Program — Advanced 90-day tactical fitness. You'll want the full setup for this one.
